Q: I normally use a 14x20x1 air filter, but that isn't an option for this type of air filter. Would the 15x20x1 air filter fit?

    3 Answers

A: It is unlikely the 15x20x1 will fit into your furnace. We are in the process of setting up a 14x20x1 under item number 64-1628-0, it should be available mid to late July 2021.

Q: why the big, "electrostatic", thing going on with furnace filters? what's it mean and why does not 1 store worker know what it means? if used, will it harm some furnaces? is it meant as a simple upgrade and every furnace can seamlessly accept one?

    1 Answer

A: The majority of furnaces should be able to handle both electrostatic and mechanical pleated furnace filters. If your system has issues with airflow a fiberglass filter will likely be a better option. Since every system is different a furnace technician should be consulted if you are unsure. Electrostatically charged filter media yields a higher initial efficiency and enhances the filter’s capture efficiency, especially in the attraction of smaller diameter particles. Electrostatic filtration is different than mechanical filtration, which depends on the size of the fiber, size of the particles being filtered and the physical structure of the filter media. With mechanical filtration, efficiency tends to build over time as particulates are collected, i.e. the filtration efficiency increases as the filter gets dirty. With electrostatic filtration, filter fibers are charged, thus creating a force that attracts particles. This provides high initial efficiency, and when coupled with a strong mechanical structure, high sustained efficiency can be obtained for the life of the filter.

Q: Is this considered a Hepa filter?

    1 Answer

A: This filter would not be classified as a HEPA filter. To have a HEPA rating filters need to capture 99.97% of all particles that are .3microns in size. Unfortunately, residential heating and cooling systems are not designed to handle the airflow restriction a HEPA filter would create. This Garrison filter rates as a MERV 8 under ASHRAE test 52.2-2017. Which requires it to filter capture 70% of particles 3-10micron in size. The MERV 8 rating is designed to allow proper airflow in most residential instalations.

Q: These filters have an arrow, but says "wire side facing furnace fan" instead of "air flow". Does this mean the same thing?

    1 Answer

A: Yes this is the same. The arrow still points in the direction of the airflow

Q: Is there any information on the air restriction through these filters (i.e. a graph showing CFM vs. Resistance)? My filter would be a 20"x24"x1", but information on any of the sizes would be great.

    1 Answer

A: The Garrison MERV 8 has an initial Pressure drop of approximately .21(inWG) at 819 CFM
