Which diesel fuel additive do I need?

The type of diesel fuel additive you get will depend on what your vehicle needs. For example, if you live in an area with cold winters, diesel fuel can turn to gel during extremely cold conditions, which can cause damage. Anti-gel cold weather diesel treatments are fuel additives that can prevent fuel from gelling. Additives such as fuel stabilizers are added to maintain the quality of your diesel since it can oxidize over time.

What are the types of diesel fuel additives?

There are various types on the market with multi-functional and single-functional treatments for specific applications. At Canadian Tire, we offer a selection of diesel fuel additives, from fuel stabilizers to cetane boosters, anti-gel additives, diesel fuel system cleaners, diesel supplements, fuel injector detergents, and more.

When to add diesel fuel additives?

During the winter months, diesel is subject to gelling or waxing, so it’s important to add additives such as anti-gel when the temperatures start to drop.

Do I need to use diesel fuel additives?

Using diesel fuel additives will ensure your diesel engine’s components are working in top condition. They also protect your engine, help with cold weather performance, and improve your fuel’s stability.

What is the best diesel fuel additive for cold weather?

Anti-gel cold weather diesel treatments are additives that help prevent clogged fuel filters and lines during the cold winter months. Diesel starts turning into a gel or wax-like consistency during extremely low temperatures, which can cause clogged fuel lines and additional problems for diesel engines. While seasonal treatment is important, using diesel additives yearround will ensure that you’re controlling the lubricity, cetane rating, and fuel stability.
