What is duct tape used for?

Duct tape was originally designed to seal joints in ventilation ducts but has since been replaced by foil tapes that are safer to use on hot surfaces. Since it's durable, water-resistant, and uses a strong adhesive, duct tape has found plenty of uses in repair projects, patching, packing, securing loose items, temporary fixes, and any situation where strong tape is needed.

Is it called duck tape or duct tape?

While they both sound the same and are easy to confuse, 'duct tape' is the most widely accepted form. 'Duck tape' tends to refer to duct tape manufactured by the Duck Brand.

Is duct tape stronger than clear packing tape?

Duct tape is much stronger than clear packing tape because it is reinforced with a fabric layer between the adhesive and plastic covering.

Why is duct tape available in different colours?

In addition to being useful because they stand out against different surfaces, different colour duct tapes can be useful for colour coding projects, boxes, and tagging or labelling. Some brands mark specialized variations of duct tape by changing the colour, the variation is usually explained on the packaging.
