Typically, paper tape or clear plastic tape are used to seal boxes and packages. Clear plastic tape is the most-used type when it comes to packing for moving, while paper tape is more common for shipping packages.

How much packing tape should I buy for a move?

Having more than one roll of tape is always useful in case you misplace or lose one while you're busy with moving. A good rule of thumb if you'll be packing with multiple people is to have a roll for each person.

What's the difference between packing and shipping tape?

Generally, paper tape is preferred when sealing packages for shipping, as it's easier to open. Because it’s more durable, plastic tape is most often used to seal boxes when moving.
