What types of brake sensors are there?

There are two types of brake sensors: mechanical wear sensors and electronic wear sensors. Mechanical wear sensors are metal plates that come in to contact with the brake disc when the pad has worn down. Electronic sensors have a resistor circuit that monitors the brake pad wear.

Do brake sensors need to be replaced?

Brake sensors are designed to break once your brake pads wear. With every new brake pad, you should have a new sensor installed.

How can I replace/repair my vehicle's brake sensors?
Replacing an electronic brake sensor is something you can do yourself. The process involves jacking up your vehicle and holding it up with jack stands to remove the wheel and replace the old brake pad sensor with a new one. If you are unsure about replacing your brake sensors, go to your local Canadian Tire Auto Service Center and have one of our professionals replace them for you.

Additional information for residents of Quebec only: The regular annual rate for persons applying for the Triangle Mastercard and the Triangle World Elite Mastercard is 21.99% for cash transactions and related fees and 21.99% for all other charges. Some applicants may receive a higher or lower regular annual rate depending on a credit evaluation. The minimum payment is the sum of (a) the greater of: (i) interest and fees shown on your statement + $10; or (ii) 5% of the New Balance, excluding amounts on special payment plans, (b) any balance over your credit limit, (c) any amounts past due not included in (b) above, and (d) the amount of any equal payments plan instalments then due. Balances under $10 are due in full. For residents of Quebec, the period between the statement date and the due date for payment is 26 days.
