What type of air nails/staples do I need?
The type of nails or staples you'll need depends on your project. For installing trim, panelling, cabinetry, and other detail work, 15-gauge nails are a good choice. For roofing, 1-1/4-in coil nails are the standard. For flooring, 2-in staples and cleats are generally used. Framing nails are sized between 2 and 3-1/4-in so they can join larger pieces of lumber.
What size of air nail do I need for my project?
For detail work, an 18-gauge brad nail is perfect and won't split or damage smaller pieces of wood like trim elements. 15-gauge nails offer a good blend of depth and size for more demanding tasks like cabinetry and other light framing. For big projects, like framing a deck or fence, 2 to 3-1/4-in nails are your best bet. A variety pack of nails can be a good investment to let you tackle a variety of projects.
