Tips For Choosing The Best Snowmobile Helmet

Snowmobiling is a popular winter sport in Canada. Whether you’re an experienced rider or just hitting the trails for the first time, a snowmobile helmet offers protection for riders of all ages.

Snowmobile helmets also shield us from low-hanging branches, strong wind gusts, blowing snow, frigid temperatures and loud noises from other vehicles.

How Often Should You Replace Your Helmet?

Many sources recommend you replace your snowmobile helmet every 3 to 5 years, but it may be sooner depending on how often you use it, and how much wear and tear it’s gone through. A good starting point would be to inspect your helmet for any signs of degradation before you start riding. Check for any cracks or indentations in the shell and liner, or for any loose parts. Theses are all signs your helmet needs to be replaced.

Can You Use a Motorcycle Helmet for a Snowmobiling?

While both types of helmets are built to keep us safe, they are designed for different activities and temperatures. In order to ensure maximum protection, it is best to stick to a snowmobile helmet as they have distinct features, such as a more lightweight shell and anti-fog face shields.
