How to choose a headlamp

A headlamp (sometimes referred to as a head flashlight or camping headlamp) is a very useful source of light for a variety of situations where you need to use your hands, whether working on home or automotive projects in dim light, navigating in the dark, or setting up camp after sundown.

Are LED headlamps better than UV headlamps?

LED headlamps provide visible light and illuminate your surroundings, while UV headlamps can light up specific materials. LED headlamps are more useful in a wider range of situations.

How many lumens do I need for a headlamp to be practical outdoors?

Anywhere from 90 to 350 lumens are practical, depending on how far you need to see, and how much light you need. For night hiking, more lumens are a good idea as they'll let you see your surroundings more clearly from a greater distance.

What type of batteries are in headlamps?

Some headlamps have built-in batteries, while others use replaceable batteries, typically lightweight batteries such as AAA or smaller.

Are all headlamp batteries rechargeable? Are they charged through USB ports?

Not all headlamp batteries are rechargeable. Rechargeable headlamps with built-in batteries are typically charged through USB ports, making them easy to keep topped up.
