I used them to drill into 1x1 inch metal top rails on my trailer. No pre-drilling necessary. The only reason I gave it a 4 was the fact that I did snap a couple of the heads off. Probably from being a bit aggressive when screwing them in.

Q: What temperature are these good to? I need to reconnect an ash bucket to my charcoal grill because they no longer make the connector ring. I'll be permanently fastening it to the bbq and the heat can reach 800F.
