Wouldn't toast and then produces horrible smoke

We bought this in May 2025, and the plunger (to drop the toast and start the toasting) wouldn't stay down. We returned it and got a new one which creates a ton of foul-smelling smoke until it appears to be ready to catch on fire. The smell fills the whole house and doesn't get better over time. Worst experience with an appliance ever.
No, I do not recommend this product.

This is second cuisinart toaster we’ve had. This one doesn’t seem to be as well made. The temperature adjustments are loose and the whole toaster feels much lighter than our previous one. Probably made to only last a few years. Price was the same but quality has suffered.

A: Non, pas vraiment. Je sors le grille pain d'une petite armoire pour m'en servir, puis fais griller mes toasts, puis je remets le grille pain dans sa petite armoire tout de suite après, sans aucun gant. Éviter de toucher les surfaces directement proches des fentes des toasts car oui elles sont chaudes, mais seulement localement. Tout le reste n'est pas chaud.

A: Oui, ça l'est. Il suffit d'essuyer l'extérieur avec un chiffon propre et humide et sécher complètement. Appliquer un agent de nettoyage sur un chiffon, et non pas le grille-pain, avant de le nettoyer. Ne pas utiliser de nettoyants abrasifs.
