The Champion 20-Ton Gas Log Splitter makes efficient work of stockpiling firewood or processing fallen timber on your property or jobsite. Equipped with a 224cc, 4-stroke, single cylinder engine, this gas-powered splitter can be operated both horizontally or vertically and features a skewed wedge to easily cut through hardwoods. Heavy-duty, dependable and portable, it’s designed for towing or fits in most truck beds for easy transport.

Good splitter, but odd failure.

So, I purchased this 29 ton splitter about 3 years ago. Very happy with it. However, 2 days ago it stopped working. When I pull the starter line it locked up. I then proceeded to dismantle it piece by piece until I found the problem. Never had this happen to me before but the flywheel had a major crack from center to outer edge and 2 other smaller cracks from center about 2 and 3 cm's long. The flywheel does look rather poorly made but I ordered a replacement from the U.S. company and total cost is about $130 can.
Odd failure but I still like the splitter so I'll see if it can live for a few more years.

i did a lot of reviews on champion splitters --finally decided on the 20 ton --was not sure about the power but this machine split all the wood i had -started first time with one pull --i was surprised --and starts ever time --the wood catchers are much stronger -over all i am very happy with my choice -im just sorry my wood is done cause i still want to use it ....

A: Your call actually, you can recieve the splitter as is still in the crate OR have it assembled. Which by the way there is NO extra charge for assembly. Depending on how busy your local CT store is, it may be a day or two before you can recieve it. Items that are pre-paid take priority when it comes to the assembly.

A: The splitter requires 5 gallons of AW-32 hydraulic fluid which is not included.

A: Dsl, ça ne fait qu'un an que j'ai la mienne et je n'ai pas eu ce problème. Peut-être juste un ajustement du moteur. le ralenti ou l'oxygène ...

Q: Why no hydraulic filter on the Champion log splitter ? May you install a filter without affecting the warranty ? Most problems with hydraulic systems is oil contamination.

A: There is a hydraulic filter on this splitter. It's in the tank. If you take the cover off were the main line to the pump comes out of the tank it is there. The picture in the owners manual shows it. I took it apart before I bought a inline filter, to make sure it was there.

Q: Can you adjust the throttle and how?

A: No and for good reason. With multiple adjustments it gets hard to remember and find all the happy spots that all the switches and buttons need to be in to start and run properly. So changes to full throttle ( how it should be run for the hydraulics to kick out the controls at the end of the return stroke instead of stalling the motor ) and the kill switch returning to the run position after you have shut it off. This saves the company from hundreds of calls from people learning how to use the machine.
