Breville Panini Non-Stick Indoor Grill & Sandwich Press, Brushed Stainless Steel

This replaces an older model that broke recently after many years of frequent use. Several improvements make this grill so much better than the basic older model. The edges around the three sides are now larger, which avoids side leakage from melting fat for instance, which instead gently drips toward the removable collecting tray at the front. The grill is slightly inclined to allow gentle drainage, but there are two feet at the front that can be extended if the grill needs to be more horizontal, such as cooking sausages which tend to roll of course. The rotating temperature knob is also a new addition, from panini to searing setting. The old grill cooking surfaces (both top and bottom) which used to be flat, are now all grooved, which gives the searing prints on meat or veggies, but also help tremendously in evacuating the fat towards the plastic drip pan. After properly disposing the collected fat, the tray easily slides off for cleaning (in dishwasher if one prefers). The adjusting lever for the top grill’s height remains the same as the old grill. Cleaning is fairly easy, the main thing to be very careful about is NOT TO DAMAGE the coating, so no abrasives, no metal utensils! Read the owner’s manual thoroughly to make sure guidance is followed. I’ve used dish soap with a wet J-cloth to clean grills and the dirty water actually collects in the drip tray, which is great! An included specially-designed cleaning spatula helps reaching into the grooves recesses. The grill is not just for panini, or veggies or steaks, but also bacon (delicious and perfectly crisp), home fried potato patties and even eggs ( use the lever to adjust the top grill so as to stop just above the yolk).
