Didn't work

Bought this a week or so ago to help fill the gaps in my life to rid the depression. Taste was ok so I gave it 2/5 but was unable to fill the gap left in my life after my wife left with the kids
No, I do not recommend this product.

This cold patch is excellent. Packs in nicely and with a little know-how, makes repairs to asphalt easy. Good price and the resealable container is very convenient! This is better than a competitor brand I have used previously.

Primer becomes seperated

I opened this today and tried to apply the primer. I realized that half the primer was stuck at the bottom of the bottle so I only got a liquid portion.
If you buy, pour the primer out and stir (if you can get it out)

Q: What do the finished edges look like after applying?
Do the edges blend in well with the surrounding asphalt? Or should I apply BK Driveway Crack Filler or BK Driveway Resurfacer to the areas surrounding the depression filler prior to using the driveway sealer?

A: Because of the courseness of the aggregate in the Depression Filler, I found that I couldn't go to much less than 3/16 inch (5 mm) on the edges of the depression. I used B.K. Driveway Resurfacer over top and after about a week of curing was able to use driveway sealer. This resulted in complete blending with the surrounding asphalt and a smooth even surface.

Q: How long until I can seal my driveway?
Is there a minimum wait time until I can seal my driveway after I use this product? I read somewhere that you should wait 90-days. Would 24-48 hours cure time be enough?

A: While the instructions say that the Depression Filler can be sealed after 90 days, I used B.K. Driveway Resurfacer over top, and it can be sealed after 48 hours or when hard. I applied the resurfacer on the same day as the Depression Filler and then waited a week before sealing. This worked well.

Q: What is the maximum thickness?
How thick can you lay the depression filler? What thickness of lifts between compaction?
3 Answers
A: The data sheet on the manufacturer website says that B.K. Depression Filler can be appled in 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch thickness (6mm to 12mm), and that for cracks it should be compacted in 2 inch increments.
I don't know what problems might arise if one filled holes or depressions deeper that 1/2 inch. My solution was to use B.K. Pot-Hole Filler (which is coarser) underneath, and then use Depression Filler for the top half inch. This worked quite well.

Q: I applied the depression filler a few weeks ago, and compacted well by covering it with a piece of wood and driving over it. I even left the car sitting on the spot for hours. It still isn't set! What can I do?

A: You haven't said how deep your coating is, or what you are expecting in the way of performance.
It's a softer version of road asphalt (basically marbles in grease). The volatiles in the tar need to evaporate, which takes time, but it will soften during hot weather just as road asphalt will. It doesn't "set" like concrete.
You could consider putting a thin layer of coarse sand on it. As it is loaded, the sand will be driven into the oils to provide a little more support. More (harder) compression might help as well. Cars aren't as heavy as you might think and the wood you drove over may have actually reduced the compression forces.

Q: Has anyone tried filling a depression that is greater than 1/2"? The labelling says "fills up to 1/2".
1 Answer
A: I used it for 1/2", predictable good results. And wouldn't hesitate for 1". Need to drive over it to compress. Actually surprising how well it adheres. A little extra thickness would make job easier. It gets thin at the edge of depression.

Q: Do you mix the primer with the rest of the staff or pour it in the depression before filling it in?
1 Answer
A: Primer should be applied to surface with a brush. Then depression filler is applied on top.

Q: People on review said the primer when pour out is like water, and the rest is glue to the side, or like thick glue, there is no instruction for the primer, what do you have to do to make the primer mixed well before applying ?
1 Answer
A: Depression Filler is used when you are applying asphalt to asphalt. The primer is necessary to bond the two together. The primer is in a small bottle and should be shaken within the bottle and poured. It can thicken with time but will still perform as it should.

Q: What kind of weather conditions are needed when applying the depression filler?
The product says immediate foot and vehicle traffic permitted but can rain be in the forecast the same day it has been applied?
1 Answer
A: Ideal conditions are no rain in the forecast and a moderate temperature between 10 degrees Celcius and 30 degrees Celcius. However, there is essentially no cure time with this product so it can be walked or driven on after application. Some rain after the application would not affect the results.
