Questions

Q: Can this product be used for depressions in asphalt or is it meant strictly for repairing holes and cracks?

2 Answers

A: I used it to fill in a little step ( about 2 inches ) at the beginning of my driveway and the sidewalk. It was easy to use and spread and did a good job . That was last summer and it looks like it will need to be touched up again this year as it kind of slowly crumbles away . As for a depression , I think it would depend on how deep the depression is . A thin skim wouldn’t last very long , I don’t think .

Q: Hi, I have a 2.5x4ft hole in my drive way from a water line repair - how many bags would I need to fill this to a 3in thickness?

2 Answers

A: First make sure there is a good solid foundation of compacted gravel and soil. On the bag it sure tell you the coverage for the contents and weight of the bag. I am estimating 4 large bags. Word of advice get a tamper tool as well. IT is worth the investment . Make sure that the base is well compacted as well as each layer that you put down. It needs to set before you can add another layer. Wear thick gloves use a wide putty knife to scrape boots and the tamper.

Q: I recently ha some work done, which left sizable holes in the asphalt in my driveway around two posts. Which type of cold patch should I use? The two I've found most compatible are Pot hole filler 049-1414-8 or speed patch crack&hole repair 049-1453-2

A: We used the Black Jack to fill quite deep Indents in our driveway from our camper settling in when the frost came out of the ground. It worked quite well but gets gooey in the heat.

Q: if I use this to build a gentle slope on existing ashphalt for the purposes of water drainage, will water penetrate between it and the existing ashphalt driveway?

1 Answer

A: This is a porous substrate, not a water tight one. Water will penetrate between it.

Q: Can I use speed patch over a large area that I have just applied the cold patch ? It’s approximately 250 sqft. The original asphalt is quite pitted and worn but no loose rock.

1 Answer

A: It would probably stick to the underlying cold patch, but you would need a lot of filler to cover 250 sq ft. I forget the size of the bags, but probably about 1 cu ft. Note that the speed patch is designed for potholes, and applying it to a flat area requires some fairing around the edges. You might want to check other options (or even phone an asphalt company) before deciding.
