The lids are thinner and the rubber sealing ring is also not as thick as they use to be. They do a terrable job sealing. We have canned for years and never had trouble until the last few years.

A: Lids fit over the opening of the jar, height of jar doesn't matter. A wide mouth lid cover an opening that is approximately 3.25" across.
