What supplies are used for moving and packing, and which should I have?

Boxes, tape, packing paper and bubble wrap are the most common supplies used when packing and moving. Moving blankets can keep furniture from getting scuffed or scratched in transit. You'll want markers for labeling boxes and organizing your belongings. Boxcutters and utility knives will help you open boxes quickly. If you're moving heavy items or lots of boxes, a handcart or dolly can save you lots of trouble and make moving smoother. Finally, we recommend having a bin or bag for garbage and cleanup.

Is it better to use cardboard or plastic moving supplies?

Both types of supplies have their advantages. Plastic totes can be very helpful if you're moving in bad weather because they’re waterproof. Cardboard boxes can be broken down and folded up after they’re used, which makes them a compact and economical option.
