Vermont Casting grill

Sales lady was great explaining the Vermont. We have used it everyday since we purchased it. The quality of it will last us for many years

Wow! Well Done!

I was hesitant about buying a griddle after barbecuing with a grill for decades. After searching all spring for a new bbq I saw this griddle unit and because it’s so well made and has a thermostat I bought it!!… the quality is evident in side by side comparisons to other models. The versatility of a griddle is a game changer! There are so so many more things you can cook on griddle! Everything cooks and tastes better and easier to bbq (bye bye flare ups!) and this bbq is so well made and thermostat feature is awesome! The 8mm thick cold rolled steel griddle means this unit will last a long time!! Wish I bought this unit a long time ago!! No pun intended but very “Well done”!

Yes, I recommend this product.

Well built but..

Bought the unit and used it initially with propane. Decided to convert to natural gas. Bad decision. Followed instructions, bought the conversion kit, installed it and low flame/heat. Called Vermont Castings customer support and was asked if I had ‘changed the orifices’. Not in the instructions or conversion kit so I don’t know what they are talking about. Jets maybe? Anyway don’t need the grief and will return the conversion kit before I launch my unit into low orbit trying to ‘fix’ it. My advice stop advertising that the unit is convertible until there is a proper/complete/safe conversion kit.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Leaking at the seam

Bought this unit just before Fathers Day last year and been using it on my weekends off making breakfast and sometimes dinner and or mostly when my wife doesn't feel like cooking. But last fall I when I was cleaning up the grease on the griddle, I noticed that there was sudden flare up a the back part of the griddle...looked at it closely, I saw a small gap where th griddle wall and the plate meets...opened the griddle door where the tank is and I saw grease on the base floor and that the grease was leaking on the seam of the griddle plate. Months later...2 days ago, I went to Canadian Tire and they have the summer stuff all set up and even bbq units and talked to one of the dept managers and explained the situation, she said that I have to call the number for the warranty but when she scanned the floor unit she said that there is a 1 yr exchange since it's a defect, brought the whole unit the next day and they replaced the whole unit brand new but not assembled of course. Took me 3 hrs again to assemble it but hey...I love using the griddle and enjoy cooking stir frys, chow meins, fried rice, our eggs bacon and pancake breakfast and so much more...summer is just around the corner and time to season the griddle all over again. Just keeping my fingers cross that hopefully it won't leak at the seam again.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Excellent

This griddle certainly outweighs the black stone. The temperature dial is a massive game changer. I bought this because it seems to be better quality, has folding shelves, hidden propane tank, sturdy lid, 4 castor wheels, and just overall a great looking unit. All these assumed qualities have been met, and I can’t believe how much I love this thing. I would highly recommend this to anybody.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: Is the griddle top non-stick or just cold-rolled steel? I figured that if it needed to be seasoned, it wasn't non-stick but it never hurts to ask

1 Answer
  • A: Thank you for your inquiry. The Vermont Castings 2 Burner Propane Gas Griddle has a cold rolled steel surface which does not come with a non-stick surface and will require seasoning. Seasoning your griddle top improves the cooking performance, creates a non-stick surface for cooking, prevents damage and deterioration due to moisture and humidity, and extends the life of your griddle. How to Season the Griddle Top: 1. Clean the griddle top with a damp cloth to remove any dust/dirt. 2. Apply oil to the griddle top, sides and corners. Use a paper towel to coat surface thoroughly. 3. Light the griddle and set control knobs to the MAX position. 4. Heat the oil to its smoke point. You will notice the griddle top changing colour. 5. When the oil stops smoking, repeat steps 2 and 4, about 3 times, until the griddle surface becomes dark. Oils For Seasoning: a. Vegetable oil b. Vegetable shortening c. Canola oil d. Flax seed oil e. Olive oil – Not ideal. Burns off at lower temperatures than the other options above. Note: With continued use of your griddle, the seasoning bond will get better and better. Applying a coating of oil at the start and finish of each cook will help to maintain seasoning. Never use soap to clean the griddle — this will destroy the seasoning. Hope this helps!

Q: Comment nettoyer la rouille sur une plaque chauffante

Translate with Google
1 Answer

Q: Is the seasoning process same as on a Blackstone griddle? Does the surface darken with seasoning?

1 Answer
  • A: Thank you for your inquiry. Yes, the surface of the griddle top should be dark (blacken) with a nice layer of seasoning. The seasoning process is as follows: How to Season the Griddle Top: 1. Never use soap to clean the griddle. This will destroy the seasoning. Never pour cold water on hot surface as this can cause thermal shock and can warp the surface.

Q: The griddle surface stainless steel? Does it rust like a cast iron pan?

1 Answer
  • A: Thank you for your inquiry. The griddle surface is not stainless steel. It is cold rolled steel (8mm thick) and is a polished surface that makes seasoning and maintenance much, much, easier. The surface is smooth to the touch, not rough and porous like most hot rolled steel griddles. Seasoning with oil is required before and after each use, to ensure the surface is well coated and protected. Seasoning creates a non-stick surface for cooking, prevents damage and deterioration due to moisture and humidity, and extends the life of your griddle.
