This paint did the job. I painted the winter rims for two vehicles. I first ground all the rust off. Then taped and painted. Did 3 coats across 8 tires. Used 3 cans. Did an excellent job.

A: I think the pro paint dries faster and has less overspray, so it is usually the paint I prefer to use. If you are using black paint consider using Tremclad Rust Reformer primer.

Q: This product says it is a Primer. Do i need to use paint also? Going to be painting my tube bumper. Would like to know if i can just use this product, or if it is recommended for me to also buy the regular rust paint and use that on top?

A: It actually says it's an Enamel AND Primer in one. So, If Gloss Black is what you are after, then choose the Gloss Black and it's done. It's NOT just a primer.

Q: Is this good for car rust repair under car after rust converted is used then removed as best as possible would this be good option ? Is primer needed ?

A: Hi Johnny, Our Tremclad Professional is suitable for a cap application. A primer is recommended if the surface is uneven or severely pitted as a primer will help to even it out and provide maximum adhesion to the topcoat.

A: Hi DeverandDevereux, While we have not tested our Tremclad Professional on rims, customers have used it on car parts. Priming helps provide a smooth surface and assists with adhesion.

Q: How many coats is reccomened. I followed directions of 1 coat and then a second after an hour, but can I add a 3rd coat within the same time frame as the second?

Q: Can Tremclad paint be used for outdoor wood projects ?

A: Tremclad is a rust paint, and normally recommended for metal surfaces only. It can adhere to other surfaces like wood and unsealed masonry, with the understanding that these surfaces are more porous than metal, and may absorb more paint, thereby changing the square foot coverage.

Q: If I use this product as a primer but, because it's black, how would if affect the finish if I use a desired lighter color?

A: The product you are describing is a top coat but doesn't need a primer. If you want to use a primer you can use Tremclad Professional Grey for lighter top coats (48-9491).

Q: Can I paint this product directly over a self etching primer? I'm planning to paint the old alloy rims of my car and i already have a self etching primer. Somebody told me that it is not a good idea to use this paint directly over the self etching primer without using first a sealer,surfacer or other fillers.

A: The self-etching primer (once dry) should be sanded smooth, then primed with a regular metal primer, then topcoated with a finish coat.
