Sabre Frontiersman Waterproof Scent-Proof Hunting Bear-Safe Food Storage Container, 11.8-L

I've used this product on two backcountry canoe camping trips in the last month. Here is what my experience has been: 1) When packing, you have to be deliberate in the choice and placement of food in the device. The shape is a bit odd and the recommendation to practice packing at home is well founded. It's not too difficult with a bit of forethought and practice. 2) You MUST have a flat head screwdriver device or coin to unscrew 3 screw heads on the barrel to open and close. This is the biggest issue/challenge with the device. The screws are held in the lid with retainers that one didn't last more than 3 or 4 open/close cycles. The thread inserts are easily cross threaded and may not last long if you aren't deliberate in back threading and then tightening each time. 3) The lid has a gasket, but even when completely tight the lid appears to 'rock' a little and I'm not convinced it's water tight. There is however also a purge valve on the opposite end to release air if the device gets warm and expands due to air pressure. Overall I found the shape easier to pack inside drybags and backpacks, but challenging to grasp in the rain and even more difficult to secure outside a pack in the bottom of our canoe. They need a harness system that buckles and unbuckles when you don't want to put it inside another bag. The open/close process is way too cumbersome and might be great againsts bears and other animals, but unfortunately isn't well refined enough for many of us humans.

Sabre Frontiersman is not an approved Bear Food Storage Container in US Parks. There is a list. So I returned it.

Not exactly waterproof. The screws need to be shortened. They bottom out in their threaded holes before the seal is engaged. Plea the knurled screws are hard for even humans to operate.
