Applied as directed in a larger patch than required. Held up maybe a week before the roof was leaking again

If the roof was leaking again, this may indicate that something on the surface prevented the coating from properly adhering in those areas. To ensure proper adherence, we recommend removing loose gravel, dirt, dust, rooted felt, and any foreign matter and apply over a clean, sound, dry base. Apply the coating to the area in need of repair and reinforce with our Rust-Oleum Universal Patching Fabric. Then fully cover the reinforcement with a second layer of the roof repair. A: No, I think the product is too thin or liquidy for that, it is like a heavy black paint or thin tar, not a solid like grease.
