hard to install

While this vinyl coated cage seems stronger than other types, it is very awkward to install unless you are putting it over a small plant and into freshly dug soil. It has a total of 8 bottom wires that have to be shoved into the ground at rather precise spacing to ensure that the cage is square and even. If even one of the wires bends a bit if it hits a small rock or a tree root etc, it throws the whole thing off and it will not close properly. It took three people 15 minutes to get one cage properly installed over a 3 foot gooseberry bush and we had 10 of them to do. You will need a pair of vice grips to bend the top loop more tightly on the closing side to keep it stable. Since the vice grips may tear the vinyl coating slightly, some flexseal or similar product may be necessary to repair the coating. They are probably the best cages for gooseberry plants but, given the effort to get them installed, plan on leaving them up year round.

A: Please note that the 4 Panel Tomato Cage – 47” is completely collapsible. All sides fold into one another creating 1 flat panel for easy storage.
