Great filters for winter heating season

Excellent filters for winter heating season. Switch to MERV 15 for summer AC season to eliminate fine particles and smoke. Just remember to switch filters for heating season or your furnace will kick off on safety constantly.

Puts priority on good air flow.

Any furnace filter is a compromise. On one hand you want air to flow freely through it, but conversely you ask it to trap dust and hair. You may choose your filter based on your priorities. It seems that each filter is rated on a MERV scale. A small MERV rating prioritises air flow, at the expense of dust capture; a large MERV rating traps more dust but resists air flow. I have seen MERV ratings of 1, 6, 8 and 13. When I fitted a MERV 13 filter by mistake, it impeded the air so much that my furnace cut out due to over-temperature. The DustStop filter that is the subject of this review is firmly at the OTHER end of the scale; it's probably a MERV 1 but don't quote me on that. My furnace responded like it was a breath of fresh air, and loves the increased air flow: it's been working ever since. My personal opinion is that if you want an air filter, get an air filter; in other words, don't try to make your furnace work as one. This filter, resembling as it does a collection of cobwebs strung together with a wish and a prayer, is exactly what will make your furnace happy. It will protect your system from the worst of it and leave the house cleaning job to your vacuum and your room air filter if you need one. As it should be. I only took off one star because the cardboard and glue seemed weak in my clumsy fingers and I had to tape it up again.

Q: When putting the filter in does the arrow on the filter suppose to point towards the furnace?

A: I hate this product! I like Merv 6 product! This product should not be sold by Canadian Tire as it does not stop dirt like Merv 6 does. I put the arrow in like the product shows you. My problem is I bought 4 packs of 3 filters each & tossed my receipt. After 2 months I realized my mistake but was stuck using up ones I had left. I will never buy this product again. Merv 6 product was only $1 more per filter & I trust it to protect my furnace.
