I was looking for a simple tool to tell me if a connection was live or not. Period. Out of all the fancy items available on today's market, Canadian Tire was the only store to carry such an item; this one. This is all it's meant to do - tell you if a wire, an appliance, a socket, a switch, is live. And that's exactly what I wanted. The light is bright, so there's never any doubt. ("Is that thing lit or not?") .
The price was right; under $10! Love this!
The only issue I have with it, is it's so small and compact, I may lose it - but I don't think so. (It does not register low voltages, like anything under 70, which could be a problem, but as your standard house is wired for much more voltage than that, I found it worked for my need very well.)

Q: Quick question, when touching only the hot wire, does the indicator glow ? Or both probes (live and neutral) has to be touched for test the live ?

A: Both probes need to be contacting a terminal or ground to get a reading from the tester.

A: MODE D’EMPLOI: Pour vérifier la tension, insérer les sondes dans la prise ou toucher délicatement les contacts électriques ou le circuit à vérifier. S’il y a une tension, les voyants au néon. L’éclat des ampoules augmentera à mesure que la tension augmente. Pour vérifier le côté porteur d’une prise électrique, insérer une sonde dans le trou de terre de la prise et insérer l’autre sonde alternativement dans les autres trous. Les voyants au néon s’allumeront quand la sonde fait contact avec le côté porteur.

A: It indicates the presence of voltage only. It does not provide a reading of any kind. It simply lights up to tell the user if the circuit is live.
