Product Details

The Kidde Worry-Free Digital Plug-In Carbon Monoxide (CO) Alarm is a 120 V, AC powered, plug-in carbon monoxide alarm with sealed lithium battery backup and digital display. It is an easy-to-install unit that provides reliable protection against the dangers of carbon monoxide. The sealed battery offers protection during power outages, prevents unwarranted removal of the battery, and eliminates the need for annual battery replacement.

  • Digital display updates the CO level in PPM every 15 seconds - no button to push

  • Plug-in Operated - Easy to install, just plug into a non-switched AC wall outlet

  • 10-year sealed battery backup does not need replacement during life of the alarm

  • The digital display will automatically adjust brightness level to adapt to ambient light conditions

  • Peak level memory displays the highest CO concentration measured since the last reset

  • End of life notification: 10 years after operation, alarm will emit two beeps every 30 seconds and the digital display will display "END" (as required by CSA)

  • CSA Listed

  • **Starting January 1, 2026, Ontario requires CO alarms adjacent to sleeping areas and on each storey in all residences with fuel-burning appliances, fireplaces, or attached garages.

A LIfe Saver

CO monitors of all makes, do what they are suppose to do. None are really better than the rest, some plug in some do not, depending on where you want to install it. What I do find is that the prices for these Mandatory and Needed devises are extremely high compared to the last time I purchased one. Every year 'the silent killer' takes lives. Why, because many people do not use them, replace batteries, or replace at end of their life cycles. With new requirements to have even more per household, they should be more affordable to more than those with the luxury of discretionary income. At $75 dollars for one unit, sorry, that is just way too much, need 4, well that is more than many can afford. We fund so many unnecessary programs, this should be something that is made available to everyone, not just those that can afford them. Have a safe and happy holiday season, be safe everyone!

Questions

1 - 10 of 10 Questions

Q: I just purchased a new one and when I plugged it in the first time the low battery alarm goes off...every 60 sec.  It's been doing it for a couple hours.  Is this normal? The hush button isn't working either.  Does it need to charge the first time?

  • A: I called Kidde and the answer they provided in this QA is regarding another model, so it is incorrect. The answer their customer service gave me, which seems to have worked, is that after you remove the red cover, you push in the white switch and that activates the alarm . After it is activated, you push the test button and you will see 888 on the screen and hear four beeps (mine did this twice) and then the system will reset. The instructions for this model are incorrect. The 'deactivation' switch is actually the activation switch.

Q: what does PCO mean on Kidde worry free digital plug in carbon monoxide alarm

  • A: I bought two of these units. One in living room one in the basement. Yesterday both went off while we were out of the house. When we arrived both alarms were on continuously. Upstairs one indicatec pco-73 basement one indicatoed pco-70. Opened the windows and the alarms eventualy silanced, and display pco-0 Shut off furance and called furance repair services. They advised me that they could not replicate the occurance, but recommended a furance replacement because my furance is 18 years old, and the model has a known recall history of failing heat exchangers. If 100 ppm is detected in the home they need to tag the system out. I think this advanxed warning is a must for every home.

Q: What is the proper way to dispose of this detector when it has reached its end of life? Instruction pamphlet doesn't say. Can it go out with regular garbage that's taken to a landfill? Big problem since we cannot open this unit to remove the battery.

Q: Is there a recommended instillation height, from the ground? If it plugs directly into an outlet, most outlets are only 1ft from the floor.

  • A: I’m an Assistant Fire Chief with 47 yrs. service. Mount the detector where ever the manufacture recommends. CO is slightly heavier than air so the standard height of an outlet in a room is quite sufficient. In Ontario, by law, you are required to hav a CO detector on each floor where people sleep.

Q: Does this meter show a CO ppm reading below 70ppm at intervals of x minutes?

1 Answer
  • A: This is a household CO alarm designed to meet CSA 6.19 standards. The digital display will show current readings as low as 11 ppm. Its peak memory will also retain the information of the highest reading until reset - in case it is a sporadic release (appliance turns on and off for example). The alarm will measure exposure over time (simulating absorption in to the human body) and will sound out at 70 ppm after 1 to 4 hours of constant exposure. At 150 ppm, it will take between 15 to 50 minutes to sound an alarm and at 400 ppm of constant exposure, it will sound between 4 to 15 minutes. Please note that this alarm is for home use only and is not a rapid reading device like the ones used by fire departments.

Q: What is the sensitivity of the PPM.readout?

1 Answer
  • A: Per CSA 6.19 , CO alarms must sound an alarm at a minimum 70 ppm if exposed for 60 to 240 minutes. As concentration goes up, the time frame to alarm decreases.

Q: I'm a little confused. I removed the red tab and plugged it in. The protruding piece automatically got pushed in. Is that normal. Does that mean the unit has become disabled already?

1 Answer
  • A: You did exactly as required. The tab gets pushed in and that is the switch that activates the alarm. You can test this by pulling out of the receptacle and pressing the test button. It should test normally. The deactivation method is not possible accidentally. It must be deliberate.
