Works great. Two USB outlets ate bonus and charge well for what I need. Blue light is too bright for my liking but otherwise good purchase.

Bought on sale, great price for a great product. Makes charging your tech easy without giving up a plug. Not suggested for sleeping area unless you like a nightlight. The blue LED is quite bright.

Questions

Q: Can this be used on a split kitchen receptacle that has each plug on a separate breaker.

3 Answers
  • A: To answer your specific question: Yes it can be plugged into a split receptacle. But please note: The unit only has one 3-prong "plug" to accesses power from the top receptacle only. It has an extra 'dummy' ground pin to stabilize the unit in the lower receptacle. In essence, this unit simply covers-up and "wastes" the separate 15Amps worth of power available in the lower plug. If you plug the same amount of kitchen appliances into this unit as you previously did into your split receptacles, you may likely overload the one 15A circuit now being used by this unit.

Q: Can this be used in the Dominican Republic? A power plug for sockets type A is recommended. I need it to charge an iPhone, iPad and an mp3 player.

Q: Are the USB ports different? For some reason both of my phones will charge on only one of the USB ports, but my mp3 player will charge on either port. Are the ports different, is my unit defective?

  • A: It may be that it's 2.4A shared between the two USB ports rather than 2.4A per port. An iPad draws 2.1A to charge and an iPhone draws 1A to 2.1A.

Q: Come with a screw or not? Description says: "Can be screwed into outlet to prevent separation from wall." Please confirm whether or not there is a proper screw included to attach this to the receptacle underneath.

1 Answer
  • A: Yes, it comes with a proper length screw. It can be screwed into the outlet. The screw and a fibre washer are put in a plastic bag inside the color box.

Q: Can this unit be plugged in to an extension cord? I would like to mount it on the wall in a spot with easier access than the outlet. Thanks.

1 Answer
  • A: No, the devices should be plugged directly into the wall block.

Q: Does this have 2.4A per USB port or 2.4A shared between ports? An iPad takes 2.1A to change, so if it's shared this will not have enough power to change an iPad and iPhone at the same time.

1 Answer
  • A: 2.4A is the total for 2 USB charging ports. You can still plug in iPad and iPhone to charge at the same time. Only it takes longer to fully charge both devices. Each USB port has power output to charge the device.

Q: If I cover the surge light with black electrical tape, will it heat up the adapter? My wife finds the blue light too bright to have in the bedroom. Can I cover the surge light with black electrician tape or will it damage the adapter?

1 Answer
  • A: The blue light on the surge protector can be covered with electrical tape. It won’t heat up and it won’t damage the adapter.

Q: Do usb ports consume power even when not in use? Typical 'wall wart' type chargers draw power regardless whether your phone is plugged in charging or not. This is because they contain transformer/rectifier components to step down the input 115VAC to (typically) 5VDC.

1 Answer
  • A: Unit employs a newer type switching power supply which consume very minimal power without load i.e. no device connected to USB port to charge. No-load power consumption is negligible, typical 0.003A (3mA). Older type analog transformer power supply consumes a bit more at no-load. Still very low at around 0.035A (35mA).
