Thank you for taking the time to review the Super Fast Drying Polyurethane for Floors. I am very sorry to hear that you are experiencing up-glossing. Generally, up-glossing is caused by two conditions: insufficient agitation of the product, or a slightly heavier-than-recommended application of the product to the surface. When using our semi gloss, satin, matte, or ultra flat products, it is very important that you thoroughly mix the product before and during application. This is due to the flatteners that are included in the formulation, which create the duller semi gloss, satin, matte, or ultra flat sheens. These flatteners have a tendency to settle towards the bottom of the container, which it is why it is extremely important to ensure that they are thoroughly distributed throughout the container before starting your project. It is also equally important to continue re-stirring the product every 15 minutes or so during your application to ensure that these flatteners do not begin to settle towards the bottom of the container again. If they do, the result will be a higher sheen than expected or desired.

If you have ensured that the product is thoroughly stirred before and during application, then your up-glossing issue may be caused by a slightly heavy application of the product. When any of these sheens are applied a little heavier to the surface of a project, these flatteners can again begin to settle towards the bottom of the coating. A thicker layer of product will take a bit longer to dry, which gives the flatteners time to sink to the bottom instead of drying on the surface as they are intended. The result will be a higher sheen than desired.

Fortunately, up-glossing can be relatively easy to correct. You will simply need to apply one more coat of product that has been adequately mixed. Make sure to thoroughly stir the container (pulling from the bottom of the container to the top) before and during your application for the best possible results. Also, be sure to apply in a thin coat to the surface per label directions and you should have a pleasing finish for your project. Horrible smell! Do not recommend

Horrible product. The smell is awful. We moved out of the house for a week and ventilated and it still smells terrible. We have young children and are concerned for their safety with the strong off gassing. We are now having to move out again and sand this terrible product off the floors.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Thank you for taking the time to review the Super Fast Drying Polyurethane. We apologize you had an issue with the odor of the product. Since it is oil based, it will have an odor. Ventilation and air flow is important when applying and also while drying. If you would like to discuss your review further, please contact us directly at 1-800-523-9299 or info@cbgbrandreview.com. Fast drying, beautiful amber tone on milled wood

This product worked great for us on a floor made out of chainsaw milled lumber that had been planed and sanded. The first coat on a bit under 37 m2 (400 ft2) of flooring used a bit more than 3/4 of a can. It dried fast allowing the second coat to be applied later that afternoon. The second coat used less than half a can. We are very happy with the result. Spilled water beads up nicely on the surface without leaving any stain marks.

Questions

Q: I used water based polyurethane on hardwood floor, can I put oil based polyurethane on top of it?

2 Answers
  • A: Typically I would not suggest doing this. You must sand away the water based product. Preparation is the key for best results. The water base does not last as long as the oil base. I had done test areas with water base. Then a few years later I redid the whole floor with the oil based product. Came out beautiful

  • A: Yes,it will seal the surface. However you will have to sand before and/or after, depending on the surface roughness. I sanded / sealed my dri core 2×2 panels so that my grandkids could play, 2 coats at least. Cheers
