MAXIMUM 20V Brushless 1/2-in Hammer Drill & 1/4-in Impact Driver Combo Kit

Bought this kit on sale, Feb 2025 and had to return it May 2025 within the 90 day window. For years I have used Mastercraft 12volt drills, drivers, saws and I still love them for their weight, durability and reasonable power for small tasks. It was time to tackle some bigger projects and the 12 volts struggled to use the larger bits and drive the long 1/4" screws. I bought into the Maximum 20v and 40v line after years of using Maximum hand tools and bits. I only used the 20v brushless hammer drill in regular drill mode and was amazed by the power and speed. It didn't seem to care if I used the 2ah or the 4ah battery and the 2ah batteries lasted for all of my home gamer DIY sessions. My two main concerns were the speed selector switch was VERY hard to move, the trigger felt cheap and flimsy, especially when locked with the direction switch, and the noise--the drill was unpleasantly loud and high pitched. The impact driver was similarly strong, much quieter, but flakey. There were a few times I pulled the trigger and nothing happened. I removed the battery and replaced it or tried a different battery and it would start working again. After many different jobs over about 80 days, I picked up the driver and it didn't start. What's more, I couldn't push the direction button. It has a forward and reverse and a very weak detent for centre, which locks the trigger for storage/transportation. At first, removing and reinstalling the battery did not work, I tried the 4ah batteries and then it suddenly worked again, but the direction switch was jammed. After confirming the 2ah included in the kit was fully charged and worked, I put the driver down for a moment and again found the driver did not turn on. Some wiggling and persuasion of the direction button finally got it working again, but I had lost all confidence in this lemon. The 40volt batteries work in the 20volt batteries, but even the large 4ah 20v batteries will not fit the 40v. It gets worse. I returned the kit within the 90 day window and was told I couldn't get my money back because it was opened and used. Of course I used it, that's how you find out if something works! I asked if I could exchange the tool and get 90 days to try the replacement, I was told NO. Only from the date of first purchase. The manager was called and I was offered store credit. Maximum is a house brand of Canadian Tire and advertises a 90 day satisfaction guarantee for a FULL REFUND. I tried to buy Canadian and I got BURNED by Canadian Tire. Compare the new brushless against the older brushed models and you can feel the difference in the switchs/triggers. These MAXIMUM battery power tools are slipping into cheap junk territory and it is so sad. Also, the names on many of the reviews all have a 5 digit code and is totally SKETCHY!

They are strong and durable. I really love them. Worth the buy!

I Love the bag that comes with it. The Drills are pretty powerful. I like The battery power included. The design is very handy and ergonomic. I Love them.

I love this maximum 20v hammer drill combo set. I bought it for my husband for some renovations around the house and this made it a lot easier. It’s easy to use and I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a break from harder work.
