Frustrating

I recently bought this table. It appears to have been discontinued. Probably for good reason. I actually hunted this table down, because it looked like it would be perfect as a small project table. I purchased the last one available in the three Canadian Tire stores in town. It likely would have been a great project table, had it not been for the problem with the wheeled casters. While the holes for assembly of the legs (to attache them to the wooden table top) did not line up, that was not unexpected. All it took was a little tension applied to the legs to get the holes to line up. It helps if the screws are not tightened initially (just 'finger tightening'). The problem was the large bolts that affix the casters to the legs. I don't use the tools that come supplied - they are typically junk. The problem is that the bolt heads are large - too large for most standard tools that a non-handyman like myself has. I had to use an adjustable wrench and not better-suited socket wrenches. 3 of the four casters were no problem to screw in. They were frustrating, because the bolt head is placed in an awkward position. The wheels likely should have been dismantled, to allow for better access to the bolt head. The fourth caster was impossible to screw in. The problem was the hole, not the caster bolt. I tried different casters and that one hole was consistently problematic. The sheathing on the leg likely encroached on the pre-set hole, and it made affixing the caster impossible. Either that, or the threading was damaged. More problematically, after trying a dozen times - being cautious not to strip the threading, in case the bolt was not aligned properly - the bolt became stuck. Really stuck. Since the head of the bolt was larger than any of my socket wrenches, I had to use an adjustable wrench. Combined with the soft metal used for the bolt, I could not unscrew the bolt, even though I had been cautious about not over-torquing the bolt when I was trying to screw it in. After an hour, I eventually got the bolt out, but it was damaged beyond use, and I was fairly certain that the threading on the hole was damaged (and it was likely damaged or unusable to begin with). Since returning the item for a refund likely would have been problematic, I manged to sink a bolt-down bolt to hold the caster in place. It is imperfect, but it will do the job for the purpose for which I intended to use the table. However, it is unlikely that I will ever purchase anything similar in the Mastercraft line in the future.

No, I do not recommend this product.

This worldbench has heavy duty locking wheels and a thick wooden work top. Well worth the money. Even better if you find it on sale.

Yes, I recommend this product.

This thing is a beast

I bought this to use as a printer stand for a couple of rather large ink jet printers. It handles the weight of both just fine, and then some. I'm pretty sure you could balance an engine block on this stand and it would be ok.

Q: If the wheels can be removed, is the bottom of the leg then flush with the ground?

1 Answer
  • A: We do not suggest to remove the wheels, because the tube may has 2-3 mm tolerance, so maybe not flush with the ground. If you must to remove the wheel, you're better to use the felt pad to make the leg balance, and which can also protect the ground.
