Good! It works as expected

I got this after College Home Hardware scammed me with a Weller soldering iron that stopped working right away. CHH never responded, they were rude and even laughed at me. I lost 80 CAD. Then I got this tool. It works very well and it is easy to change the tips. The only reason why I do not give it five stars is that either the spring coil should have smaller gaps or the wire should me thicker. When the product was new, the wire folded a bit while the iron was heating up, and the rubber got inside the coil spring and touched the hot tip. I had to fix that by adding electric tape and at least the copper was not exposed. A nice to have would be that the base includes an audio jack to connect the iron like a guitar cable. That way it would be really simple to change the pen instead of constantly switching between flat or round tips.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Mastercraft makes inferior products

I bought this soldering gun station a few years ago (it was a black color station, but same model number). Used it a few times, but each time it got harder to melt the solder set at the highest setting (40 w). The metal tip stopped getting hot enough, but further up the stem it was hot to melt the solder, which made this tool useless. Eventually the tip would not get hot enough to melt the solder, but it melted plastic well. I have had problems with electric Mastercraft products in the past, failing to work after a few uses, and I should not have bought this brand. Never again Mastercraft. I am going to get established name brands and pay the extra few dollars for reliability and quality.

No, I do not recommend this product.

It works as it should.

I bought 2 of these for school and they work very well and do melt solder on both heat settings but I usually use the high for doing the work and put in on low for standby. The stand is very helpful to keep the iron from burning the desk, etc. The water sponge pad is very helpful for cleaning the iron tip.

Yes, I recommend this product.

  • A: Whatever the setting, you won't melt solder at the tip, regardless how long your wait for this "tool" to heat up. I bought one, it's useless.
