Doesn’t work consistently. The window for reading the thermometer clouds over from the steam while stirring the boiling jam so you can’t read the temperature. It then starts to turn itself off and will only come back on when you take it out of the pot, which defeats the whole purpose. I finally had more success by using an instant read digital thermometer.

I found this to be a really handy tool for jelly & jam making. Temperature seems to be pretty accurate. I noticed another review gave it low marks because that person was trying to use it for candy making. I don’t really think it was made for that purpose given the high temps required for candy making and the fact that this is plastic. It worked well for jams.
