    CO2 detector

Works well and last for 10 years

    Easy to instal

We have one sitting on a table and another one mounted on our basement wall. The wall mount was easy, and they both beeped when the backing plate was inserted. As such they seem to work fine - at least we sure hope they do because the readings they both show are zero.

Q: Can the Kidde 10 year carbon monoxide detector be plugged into a wall outlet or does it have to be mounted on a wall or ceiling?

    3 Answers
    • A: This CO Detector is battery powered, lifetime is 10 years. It is not plugged into a wall outlet. I can be mounted on the wall or on the ceiling, but it can also be placed on any flat surface. The unit activates when its mounting bracket is inserted and the mounting bracket can be used as-is without mounting it to anything.

Q: How far from the heat vent should it be placed? I have Forced Air Gas furnace. I was thinking about placing it on the night stand beside the bed. Is that far enough away from the heat vents, which are right beside the bedroom night stand?

    • A: I would find it hard to find any place in a home with forced air heating, that you could get 15 feet away (other answer) from a heating duct. Avoid direct heat flow and possible dust accumulation. The practical answer is somewhere there is some air flow for the sensor to detect the air. Avoid corners and spots that are closed off. CO is mixed with the air, not low lying or high up. This unit works well standing on top of furniture or wall mounted. The portable feature allows for travel, to cottage or motor homes or just around the house. In general, close to sleeping areas, as that is when people are accumulating the most CO, if any, due to time. You can push the button for any low readings below the alarm level. If anything at all detected, even low levels, you might want to investigate possible sources. If no CO, this product is great life insurance.

Q: How to disable unit when expired?

    1 Answer
    • A: Hello. To turn off your Kidde C3010-D carbon monoxide alarm, start by removing the back cover. You can do this by gently sliding a flat screwdriver into the small recessed area in the center of the alarm and prying the cover off. Once the back is open, look for a wide slot on the lower left side. Insert the screwdriver straight into that slot and slide it upward toward the top of the alarm. You’ll feel a switch move and stop. Make sure the screwdriver goes in straight so it connects with the switch properly. The alarm might make a few short sounds, but it should stop beeping within one minute.

Q: Will this detector detect a leak from a gas stove?

    1 Answer
    • A: If you mean a carbon monoxide leak, then yes it will. It will not however, react to any combustible gas like natural gas or propane (LPG). For tha you need model 900-0113-05 which has a 7 year lifespan and uses a 9V battery back-up. That model will not work from battery only. It must have 120VAC not from a generator or solar cells.

Q: Can the CO2 detector be used in an unheated garage?

    1 Answer
    • A: No. CO alarms can not be installed in any garage, heated or not. The constant presence of CO from the car(s) going in and out as well the temperature variations will make the alarm unable to react properly by either sounding for no reason or not being able to even measure for CO. Only heat detectors hardwired to the house smoke alarms can be used in a garage.

Q: Does digital display give rwadout below 30? I want to buy three of these but want to know if this is an American or British model. The American models only show zero even if the actual reading is 29 or lower. British and European models display actual readout down to 10 and even lower.

    1 Answer
    • A: Unfortunately No - The standard in Canada is different. The unit will only display after 30ppm. It would display level between 11-30ppm by pressing the peak level button.
