Q: Can I use this to replace the latch in a standard privacy door, and keep the handles intact, or will it only work with new doors (one with a freshy drilled hole)

A: Hello, This piece is meant to work with a stationary handle. It will not replace the catch inside an existing handle system where the handle is turned and the catch retracts. Max. hole size for the circular catch on this product is 15/16" x 1 1/4" deep. If your existing door has this size of hole you can use this product. Regards,
