Needed this to repair an original installation in my condo laundry room doors. Worked much better than expected. The new spring ball mechanism fit right into the original holes from the flimsy spring mechanism that the builders used. Had to install the strike plate backwards as there was not enough material available to drill new holes in the header plate and I didn't want to get that deep into rens but can't even tell. With a stronger spring and smoother mechanism (looks a ball bearing versus the old plastic wheel) the doors hold nice and tight.

Q: Can I use this to replace the latch in a standard privacy door, and keep the handles intact, or will it only work with new doors (one with a freshy drilled hole)

A: Hello, This piece is meant to work with a stationary handle. It will not replace the catch inside an existing handle system where the handle is turned and the catch retracts. Max. hole size for the circular catch on this product is 15/16" x 1 1/4" deep. If your existing door has this size of hole you can use this product. Regards,
