Functional but underpowered for larger spaces

The fan does work as advertised, but I found it's not suitable for larger rooms. The airflow isn't strong enough to make a noticeable difference in bigger spaces. It might work better in smaller rooms or for more targeted air circulation. Consider the size of your room before purchasing.

Could be designed better but serves its purpose

I purchased this register booster for our entrance which has a register on the wall that barely pushes out any warm air in our tiled entrance. The entrance always felt like a cellar and the cold air from opening air front door made the whole area freezing cold. It is on a split level and is partially open to our living and dining room. This room chilled this area of the house. This register booster doesn’t solve the issue 100% but there is a noticeable difference in this area now. It is much more comfortable to standing in our entrance now and put on our coats and boots to go outside and it definitely feels more inviting when coming inside from the cold. I do have a couple complaints. The first is that there is no way to secure this booster to a wall, even though it is advertised as working on both floors and walls. Currently I am using two-way tape to keep it from tipping away from the wall. Also, I’m sure this booster could be manufactured with a power cord that is more aesthetically pleasing than the one it has and perhaps come out from the side of rhe booster instead of from the top. This would make it easier to vacuum and clean around as well as prevent the cord from breaking if someone accidentally walked on the cord if installed on a floor register. All in all, it helps and that’s the main thing. Not sure this would be my first choice if other options were available but in the absence of other alternatives, I would say, give it a try.

Definitely helps pull air through registers that are located a distance from the furnace.

Works Great, Watch the you tube video!

Bought this to help cool off my room which gets all sun in the evenings. I would definitely recommend watching the you tube video on how to set it, because the instructions that come with it are not helpful at all. I almost returned it because of this. But once I got the settings correct it works great. Keeps the room 2-3 degrees cooler than using without. Fan isn’t overly noisy which is good. I will buy buying another one for my son’s room. Overall for $50 I am happy with it.

Q: How long are these units expected to operate before failing? With maintenance, how long are they expected to operate?

  • A: I have not had any issues with mine. I plug it in when my AC is on and I can’t get the upstairs bedroom cool enough. It’s been working great for about 3 years now. No maintenance required.

Q: What happens when the furnace stops Once the furnace stops, does this fan keep running? If so, then it would just be pulling in cold air (in the winter). Or is it designed to shutoff once the furnace stops?

3 Answers
  • A: The fan only runs if the air in the duct is colder than the air in the room (on the cool setting) or warmer than the air in the room (the heat setting). You get to choose how much temperature difference there needs to be between the air in the duct and the air in the room before the fan comes on - the fan has a thermostat. This feature works really well and means the fan only runs when you would want it to.

Q: We have an older home, and all our vents are very close to the walls and baseboards The surrounding trim on your unit seem to be quite wide... Any suggestions?

  • A: I would suggest you purchase the booster fan and determine if it fits into your vents and the space allowed satisfactorily. If it doesn't, then you can easily return the item to Canadian Tire within their "return policy" time frame.

Q: if I keep the temperature difference low (for A/C on cold settings), it keeps running all the time. Will it burn out and/or cause fire?

2 Answers
  • A: It's made for continuous use and would only cause a fire if there is a short causing sparks and a fire. But there is always a possiblity of things going wrong. The only complaint I have is that it started making a clacking noise after a while possibly from a component interfering with another piece.

Q: We have a gas fireplace stove and the internal fan is defective and too costly to replace/repair. Can I use this fan to push the hot air surrounding the stove/fireplace when it fires up out to the rest of the room (14 x 20) feet) and shut off after?

2 Answers
  • A: Not sure where you are placing this fan but it's designed to fit on a heat register. After a few months of use my fan started to rattle and make a noise. If you are planning to just blow hot air around there stove then it is better to use a standard fan that stands on the floor.

Q: Is the fan reversible to pull main floor warm air down into an unheated crawl space?

  • A: No. It will only draw air in one direction.  Could you mount it upside down in the crawl space?
