What's with the deteriorating sponge?

Left a lot of little blue sponge flecks after about 10 minutes of use and didn't provide the smooth finish as expected. Would only recommend for very small jobs when you are prepared to finish sand.

The foam edge is concave and has a nice lip for getting into corners. The only drawback is that the foam under the outside fuzzy applicator is soft and will eventually break off in pieces if you're using it to do a lot of corners and edges. Otherwise, the application is really smooth and it should hold together to get your job done.
