    Broken belt

Broke a belt on one of my winter tires and decided to buy two of these. Would have bought a set of 4 but there was only 3 tires at 3 different stores this side of the Quebec border so I travelled to two separate locations to get a set of 2

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    Lacking somehow in grip

These were installed on an Audi Q5 (all wheel drive) a few years ago. I no longer have the car but I remember a few things. The tires were purchased new, and were used on 17in SUV wheels. I do remember climbing a long steep road before the city trucks came to plow the snow. Basically, all FWD and RWD cars were stuck on the incline, the Audi equipped with the Altimax had no trouble climbing the road. That said, I did notice the tires would have a tendency to slip a little too easy on almost all snow conditions, deep snow, slush and ice - obviously, on ice pretty much any non studded tire will spin, but I was surprised about the amount of spinning on snow with these tires, even with gentle acceleration. For the same amount of money I had other brands which would not spin this easily. I rate this tire average - it doesn't mean it's a bad tire, it's just that it performs better than cheap winter tires, but less well than other brands at the same price.

Much better than Motormaster Winter Edge!

I replaced these tires (which were great) with the Motormaster Winter Edge tires and immediately noticed that the new tires had much less grip. After two seasons, the mechanic mentioned that the Motormasters are quite worn and I may only get one more season out ot them. I compared the tread to the old Altimax Arctic tires (I had switched it to a barely used car) and the tread on the Altimax Arctic was deeper (and had 68,000km on it vs 29,000 for the Motormaster ones). I would definitely buy the Altimax Arctic tires again! (But I recommend not buying the Motormaster ones)

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Just got a set and will report back

I just had 4 225/60/16 installed on my Fusion SE and will report back at the end of winter. I don't expect them to perform like my Dunlop Wintersport 3D's which for me are one of the best winter tires I have ever driven on, but we will see. I am confident based on many reviews I have read that they will do well. I hope so...

Q: When buying winter tires is it absolutely necessary to buy steel rims as well? I have always had the tires installed on my existing rims.

    6 Answers
    • A: No but it is better for the life and reliability of the tires since you streatch the bead ( seal ) puting them on and off, you may develope slow leaks, also installation become cheaper and faster. Besides if you have nice rims in the summer why ruin them in winter

Q: Winter Tire size for 2010 Beetle My 2010 Beetle all-season tires are 205/55 R16 H. The VW dealer reccommends putting 15 inch winter tires and rims as he says that size will perform better in the snow and ice.....anyone have any opinions on this? Agree? Disagree? If no, then why?

    3 Answers
    • A: Your 205/55 R16 will be equivalent in tire size to a 195/65 R15. The rim is smaller but the rubber portion is taller. There is barely any change in the overall diameter of the wheel. The 195/65 R15 tire is not as wide as the 205 and there will be more bite into the snow, hence better performance. This way you would need an additional set of rims.
