I just picked up this mat about an hour ago. Right away I'll tell you that I can't comment on it's water/slush retention capability. The grooves aren't that deep, but I think for it's depth and the number of channels, and if I take a few seconds to knock excess snow/slush off of my shoes, it should be fine. When I bought this, I was MAINLY concerned about if it was wide enough to fit the entire 22" foot area of my 2012 Escape since the only large ones I came across during my online searches were about $100. I saw this online, but at the store, I was checking out the measurements of other deeper-grooved mats that seemed promising, but nothing available at the time was wide enough. This measures about 23" so I was able to use it right out of the packaging - installing both the driver's and passenger's mats in the store's parking lot. I wished this was designed with a raised edge along the outer sides, but I guess since it was made to be customizable, that's why it wasn't. The feature would have been great for people who don't need to trim but I'm just thrilled to have found something to cover the entire floor area! The mat isn't that thick and it's not heavy either. There are anti-slip rubber spikes along the foot area of the mat and I had no problems with the mat during the 20-minute drive home. -1 star for the shallow-ish channels.
