    disgraceful

I bought this machine to use for tool sharpening. The wet wheel wobbled well over 10 degrees out of plumb. The 6" wheel was well and true but the wet wheel was so bad that you would never be able to dress it properly. If you don't have a true wheel you cannot sharpen a tool; it's that simple; why would you design such a flawed product? Unfortunately, you cannot tell if a machine is descent until you buy it. I unpackaged it, set it up, turned it on, and immediately repackaged it and I will return it tomorrow.

No, I do not recommend this product.

    wet & dry grinder

I use this wet/dry grinder in my jewellery studio. I cut and grind my own gem stones from mineral rough. This was the first machine I purchased to do the job. Previous to that, I was attempting to grind them on wet emery papers by hand with elbow grease. Only prehistoric peoples had that much time on their hands! The speed of the wet wheel was perfect for hand held grinding. Most stones were set on dop sticks, which was safer and the best for cabochon shaping control. This is a great arts & craft studio grinder. It attaches well to my BenchMate so I can use it out doors in the summer. Always drain and thoroughly rinse the reservoir. Take care of your toys and they will last!

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Nice addition to a well tooled shop

Got to tell you this is a nice unit. First and foremost though it is not a PRIMARY grinding tool. This should not be considered as a purchase if it is to be your primary grinder. A good 6: or 8" dual wheel 1/2 -3/4HP bench type grinder would be a better first purchase Now with that caveat out of the way, as an addition for light grinding and edge setting this tool will work well. A finer finish is available to say drill bits or tool edges, chisels punches and dressing a screw driver, garden shears, pruners, scissors etc. I'll be seeing what I can do with this with some cheap cutlery for chits n giggles and if lucky it will work ok for me. All in all I have had good use for lighter grinding duty and when I want to move a good deal of material I use my other dedicated grinders! I'd definitely suggest this to a person who does their own tool sharpening, or someone wishing to say invest in specialty grinder which is really what this is. I'm pleased with my purchase.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    Buy Two Grinders Instead

If you are on a real budget, this grinder might work for you, but I found the dry wheel so underpowered that it was almost useless. I ended up buying another coarse/fine same speed two wheel grinder. The tool rest on the dry wheel is so flimsy that I have to retighen it several times to finish a job. I would suggest saving your money and buying two dedicated machines.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: Wobbly wheels? Really wanted to get this item but returned 2 due to wobbly wheel making it impossible to work with a bit of precision. Fluke? Mastercraft (or the tool repair guy they sent me to) wasn't aware of how to adjust. Anyone run into this or have any tips?

Q: Could the dry wheel be replaced with a buffer pad Wondering if the motor is strong enough on the dry side to switch to a buffer pad for polishing

    1 Answer
    • A: This machine motor power is S2 30mins 250W, if not heavy polishing, it seems it is OK to use dry buffer pad for polishing in dry side. Please contact Mastercraft at 1-800-689-9928 to obtain instructions on how to replace wheel.
