Q: Do I need to use this for initial spa setup? I wish there were clearer instructions on spa startup and order of chemicals to add as well as how long to wait between adding different chemicals as well as how long to wait before using the spa.

  • A: Hi, if the water is completely new I would recommend to use the Spa Gran Brom for the start up. This product will increase the sanitizer level, wait 2 hours before using the spa. We recommend to use the Spa Shock Treatment on a weekly basis as a shock to oxidize/destroy the excess of contaminent in the water and wait 15 min before using the spa.

Q: I use bromine in our hottub - the directions we were given was after spa use to add one capful per person and for every 20min used.  So if we had 2 rubbers 40 minutes that’s 4 capfuls.  Is this product used the same way?

  • A: Hi, you are right after using the spa, we recommend using the Spa Shock. The dosage is 15g or a table spoon per bather up to a maximum of 60g Thank you

Q: What is the difference between this and Clear it? Do I need to use both in my hot tob. The Spa kit comes with clear it but no shock? I'm confused if they do the same thing or if only one is needed?

  • A: Shock allows your Bromine (or chlorine) sterilizer to work properly. After a while, the bromine in your spa gets oxidized and stops working. Shock removes the oxidation and allow the bromine to keep the spa water clean and germ free. You should add it once per week; or more often in times of heavy usage. Clear-it makes microscopic particles of dirt and organic matter clump together so the filter can pick it up. Without Clear it, these microscopic particles would just pass through the filter. It keeps the water crystal clear and looking nice but it is not a sterilizer.

Q: Hello we use bromine in our spa. The directions we were given was after using the spa we add one capful of shock per person for every 20 minutes. So I usually end up adding 2 capfuls after I use the spa for 40min. Is this shock added the same way?

Q: Is this "powdered chlorine that can be used to disinfect a spa?

2 Answers
  • A: Sort of, this is a non chlorine shock, not a disinfectant per sea, if you are running a chlorine system in your spa you should be using Dichlor granules like the "#1 stabilized chlorine granules" at 1 teaspoon per bather after every use, that disinfects it, then using a product like this which is an oxidizer once a week (2.5 tablespoons per week for 250 gallons or 5 tablespoons for 500 gallon spas) that will keep the water clean and fresh. You should be looking at "#2 Oxy sparkle non chlorine shock" instead, bigger volume of the same chemical for a better price.
