This heater did the job almost too well, heating my small bedroom to an uncomfortable level overnight even on its lowest power and temp settings. Eighteen degrees? More like 28°! I dealt with that by setting the timer to turn off after four hours. Three months into using it, though, it shut itself down one day and is now dead. The "power on" beep sounds, but the front panel doesn't light up and there's no heat. This seems to be a fairly common problem with the cheaper versions of these heaters, which this one definitely was. However, even at a low on-sale price, I can't recommend this unit.

We bought this heater in November. It worked well, we loved that it was quiet and could set it to turn on in the morning and it would be nice and toasty in the room when getting out of bed. Unfortunately it broke 2 months later. The on/off switch stopped working and we had to return it. We got our money back and went to look for a similar product online. We got one from amazon that looks exactly like this but not NOMA and this also broke within a couple weeks. What a disappointing product.

This is a follow-up to a review I wrote on January 29/17. I returned one of these Noma Black Oil Heaters, thinking it was defective, and wanted to get a straight replacement. The replacement shown to me by the sales person was a Garrison unit. I mentioned that I bought a Noma, but was told it was exactly the same thing, but with a different name brand. When I looked at the box, I saw a photo of the heater, and it did look exactly the same as the Noma. All the specifications were rated the same, EXCEPT on the Garrison, it stated that it is good for a small room of up to 162 square feet, whereas the Noma box stated it was good for a medium room, up to 300 square feet (I initially bought the Noma because of the room compatibility - my room is 270-280 sq feet). I found it very odd that the two, identical units were rated for different rooms, but I took it home with me anyway. I set it up, and left it running on its highest settings from 8pm until approximately 8am, at which time i turned it off. It did very little to heat my room; although it wasn't FREEZING in the morning, it certainly wasn't warm (and this was with the unit within 2 feet of my bed). I would say that the Noma box's claim of 300 sq ft coverage is completely inaccurate, and am inclined to thinking that the Garrison's 162 sq ft rated is more believable. With that said, the room would have to be a closed, small space, with a good seal in order for this thing to offer any significant heat. I have to point out, as well, that in running the unit on its highest setting for 12 hours, my electric usage for that period of time more than tripled compared to my normal usage (almost quadrupled, actually!). Of course, this on the 1500 watt power setting, so it shouldn't be any surprise, really. On the 'econo' setting, this heater is completely useless in my space, so it's a lose-lose situation. I like the dry heat that radiates from this type of heater, but I can only recommend this heater for a very small, well-insulated room (maybe 10x12 or a bit bigger, at most). Also, it must be used on its medium or, even better, its most economical setting, or your hydro bill will go absolutely through the roof ! I wanted to like this heater, but it is just not right for my current needs. Next up: Infrared heaters! Let's see what they can do (i'm worried about the noise, though, which was the whole point of buying an oil heater in the first place).

work quietly, that is what am i worrying before. still worrying whether it will leak later.

We bought this for a small room and it works great. Love the radiant heat that it gives and also how quiet it is. Easy to set up and easy to use.Sara
