Better than getting a hole in one!

Zinsser Bulls eye 1,2,3 is the best primer I have ever come across for use on interior walls. Great coverage, adheres to see every surface I have applied it to. When needing to take a wall color from a deerp purple to a lght grey. 2 coats does the trick! Goes on super smooth like a thick cream consistently. Absolutely perfect!!!!

Q: Can you simply use this as the only coat or do you need to apply paint over it?

4 Answers
  • A: This is only a primer and is meant to be the base coat. Yes, you need to apply paint over it.l It has a dull finish and is only used for what it is made for - primer.

Q: Can I safely use exterior oil based solid stain or exterior acrylic solid stain over this primer?

2 Answers
  • A: You shouldnt need a primer for solid stain on wood, if you do need one for some reason, check the product data on your finish coat product and it should have a recommended primer. For an oil base top coat, I would only recommend using a slow drying exterior oil primer. For a latex/ acryllic top coat, yes this primer should be fine

Q: The Zinsser line of Primer products have recently changed their Safety Data Sheets to include the phrase that they may contain Tremolite Asbestos in their products.  Is this of concern?  Their SDS sheets never mentioned this in the past.

Q: Someone said we don't have to wash smoke stained walls before using this. We can just paint over the smoke stains. Is this true?

  • A: Surface prep is always key, and all surfaces should be cleaned well before they are primed with any Zinsser primer, including Zinsser BE 123.

Q: Can I use this product on a veneer or laminate shelf and desser?

2 Answers
  • A: You could use it so long as you prepped your surface properly. For laminate or veneer it needs to be washed first with ammonia, rinsed, lightly sanded, and wiped clear of all dust. I prefer to use two thin coats rather than put it on heavily. I also use a very good brush or roller, this way the end result is much smoother. Let the coats dry thoroughly then paint with a good latex.

Q: Will this work on OSB surfaces? Thanks!

1 Answer
  • A: Hi Steve, Our Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Water-Based Primer may cause your OSB to swell. We recommend our Zinsser Cover Stain Oil-Based Primer Sealer instead.

Q: Hi there! Which Zinsser primer product is best to use over unsanded varnished wood kitchen cabinets? Thanks!

1 Answer
  • A: Hi Nicole, Great question! For unsanded varnished wood, we recommend our oil based Zinsser Cover Stain. There may be pinholes in the finish and our Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 may cause tannins to bleed through the finish.

Q: Can this be used on a pressure treated wood greenhouse and then topcoated with Solignum marine paint?

1 Answer
  • A: Hi Evanie, It is best to let your pressure treated wood dry out for at least a year to avoid any adhesion issues. However, if this wood will be submerged under water, we do not recommend our Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 as it will not be able to hold up to the amount of water it will be exposed to, even when topcoated with marine paint.
