Poor design

Very poor fit. Nearly impossible to install filter and frame without warping the fan housing (top of humidifier) causing the fan to stop or cause a fault in water level sensor.

Installation & removal

The filter itself is good, just design issues. This filter use to have plastic straps that would catch on frame cross straps when installing & removing from frame on Aircare EP9 humidifier series. Now with the glue construction, the glue straps catch the frame much more making installation & removal even harder. I would like to see the mfg. go back to the plastic straps but run the straps 90 deg. from original straps to prevent straps from catching on the frame straps.

Essick Humidifiers

I have been using Essick room humidifiers for over twenty years to protect antique furniture and plants (and a sick parrot). Attractive faux wood exteriors. Don't leave a salt residue on things because evaporative. Easy to use and you can get replacement parts. I put a little vinegar in bottom of unit at beginning of season (end of October to end of April) and never had a problem with mold or bad smells.

Q: How often to replace 1040 wicks? Instrux say to reuse "if they are in good shape" and "throw away if it is time to replace them." Mine seem to be OK but they always fall out of the frames when I take them out to check or clean the unit.

A: Thank you for your question. The wick is still good as long as it is absorbing water all the way to the top. Our wicks are designed to last anywhere from 30 to 90 days, depending on the water quality.
