How to increase your warmth when camping

Hot days and cool nights are the norm for camping trips. Looking to keep yourself warm at night while camping?  If you find yourself in the cold, here are a few steps for keeping yourself warm as you sleep under the stars.

5 STEPS

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

STEP 1

Avoid going to bed with the same clothes you wore during the day

During the day, your clothes have collected your sweat. As result, you will want to make sure you change into dry clothing before bed.

STEP 2

Make sure to eat a big hearty meal before calling it a night

High calorie and fatty foods provide heat for your body throughout the night.

STEP 3

Fill a water bottle with warm water and place in the bottom of your sleeping bag

Ensure proper insulation by utilizing a mummy sleeping bag or a liner.

STEP 4

Wear a toque and add extra layers

Keep your head warm and drape an extra jacket over top of your sleeping bag. Do the obvious, pile on more blankets, clothes and socks to increase your warmth.

STEP 5

Breathe outside of your sleeping bag

Although you may think you’re warming yourself up by breathing into your sleeping bag, your breath creates moisture and dampness, which in turn can make you feel even colder! Keep your mouth outside your sleeping bag.
