As Canada’s capital, Ottawa is home to parliament and the senate. Therefore, its home hockey team is aptly named the Senators.
What is the history of the Senators?
The original Senators team, established in 1917, were a founding NHL franchise and won the Stanley cup eleven times. When the NHL expanded to the United States in the late 1920s, the original Senators could not afford to meet the higher costs of being a part of the NHL. It wasn’t until 1990 when Ottawa was awarded their franchise and could reclaim their name.
