What are the benefits of dimmers?

Dimmer switches let you adjust the brightness of connected lighting, specifically allowing you to reduce brightness. Dimming lights can save electricity and extend light bulb life by reducing their electrical consumption and lowering their temperature. Finally, dimmers can help you set a mood when dining or watching movies, and make your home more comfortable.

What are the different types of dimmers?

There are two main types of dimmers: slide dimmers and rotary dimmers. Slide dimmers typically have a switch to turn lights on and off, and a sliding bar that sets their brightness. Rotary dimmers have a knob you turn to adjust brightness.

Can you put a dimmer switch on any light?

You'll want to make sure the dimmer switch you choose is compatible with the lights you'll use it for. Check our guide on How to Install a Dimmer Switch to make sure you've got everything you need.

Do I need a different dimmer for LED lights?

Some dimmer switches are not compatible with LED light bulbs, so you'll want to make sure you choose one that will work with them. Check the packaging or details online to make sure a dimmer switch will be LED compatible.
