What do I need to play badminton?
To start playing, you’ll need to have the right badminton equipment. There isn’t much gear required, unlike sports like hockey or baseball. Ensure you have a racquet, a few birdies (shuttlecocks), the right apparel and footwear, and a court or net. If you can’t find a proper court to play on, you can always consider a portable net so you can take the game anywhere. Canadian Tire has a comprehensive selection of badminton racquets and gear so you can start learning and practicing the game.
What are the rules of badminton?
Players should be on opposite sides of the net. You can play the game as singles (one person on each side) or doubles (two people on each side). When the score is odd, the server serves from the left side of the court, but if it is even, the server serves from the right. A point is scored on every serve and given to the side that wins the rally – if the shuttlecock hits the ground and the players are unable to hit it across, the round is over. All matches are best-of-three, where the first side with 21 points wins. These are just the basic rules of the game, as there are many more intricacies and more detailed rules that exist in Badminton.
