What are the types of fishing line?
There are three main types of line: monofilament, braided, and fluorocarbon. Choosing the right type depends on the type of fishing you’ll be doing, the species of fish, and the lures and baits you use. Monofilament is the most popular choice, especially for tying knots and casting far with light lures such as jigs and plastic worms. Braided line has high abrasion resistance and is a great choice for deep water fishing and a sense of “feel” when using lures and baits. Fluorocarbon is stiffer than the other two types of line and keeps lures lower in the water. They also have the benefit of sinking faster.
How much fishing line should I buy?
When buying fishing line, ensure you buy enough so that there is some gap between the outer layer of your line and the edge of your spool. The length of line you need will ultimately depend on what you’re fishing and where. For bass fishing at a lake, you may only need 10 – 15 yards, whereas surf fishing will require much more, around 100 yards or more.
Which colour fishing line is best?
Apart from the type of fishing wire you need, you should also consider its colour. Clear fluorocarbon is the most invisible line you can buy, while pink fluorocarbon also blends well in the water. For muddy waters, yellow line allows anglers to see their line but also stay camouflaged to fish. Green line is a general all-purpose option for different situations.
What is the strongest fishing line?
Braided line is often considered the strongest line on the market. The strength of line is measured in pounds, so be sure to go for a heavy weight that matches the weight of the species you are fishing for.
