Good product

Just finished laying a garage - 23x23. Started at 10 a.m. and finished at 6 p.m.. Luckily - no trimming on the sides, but had to trim around cabinets and a post near the end. My experience and observations: - At $47.00 a box is no deal - at $32.00 a box on sale is a deal. - A good rubber mallet and knee pads are mandatory.By the end of the day I couldn't even clutch the mallet anymore - my wrists were toast from the constant pounding. - Do not kneel on the tiles you just laid - always kneel on the cement floor. You don't want any weight on the floor untill you have finished,if you can help it.By the same token,do not move cabinets or a freezer or whatever to one side of the garage and move them over onto on the finished product before the floor is finished.Move everything off the floor and then put it back when job is complete ( The floor needs movement as each tile is hammered down.) - Keep checking your alignment every 3 or 4 rows you do and move the whole floor to compensate. - Don't waste your money on the transition strips or corner pieces - trim off the tabs at the garage door entrance and the sides along the walls and leave it.It still has a finished look.. - Leave a good half inch around the perimeter for swelling in hot weather - paint the bare floor charcoal to blend if you must. - Don't worry about colour consistency with each tile - it's just rhe nature of the product and not unattractive ( hence why I say @ 32.00 - it's a good deal - @ $47.00,no. If I wanted colour consistency I'd go with a more expensive alternative. Summary - all in all,I'm quite happy with the product - ease of installation and trimming ( have a few good blades and framers square to cut and take your time - making 4 or 5 passes with the blade for a clean cut. I guess time will tell how it stands up to every day use.

These tiles are great. Durable, easy to clean, not too hard to install. Installation: regardless of area size, install ALL tiles before putting any objects back on the floor. You will NOT be able to lay them perfectly, so there must be opportunity for them to shift slightly at all times. I tried this on a 10X30 surface and had problems near the end (80% done) even though I only had a few items back on the floor at the opposite end. After removing the objects, it fit together perfectly. Price match these as well. Another well known home improvement store has them for about $30 every day.

Yes, I recommend this product.

good floor

This is very simple to put together and very durable and easy to clean. We used this as an entry door mat. The only problem is the edging it comes in packages of 4 and corner or striaght, you will need 1 pack of corner no matter what, then you will need 1 1/2 packages of straight, for each box of 10 tiles.. So there are always some spare. but no big deal I guess.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Works well

I have installed these in my laundry area and under the treadmill. It makes cleaning the floor in these areas easy and the overall look tidy. It is also easier to stand on than the cement floor. An inexpensive way to improve the basement.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: After parking a car in the garage over a winter, does anyone have any comments on how the floor will look? I'm picturing salt stains, etc.

  • A: We do not expect the salt to penetrate the PVC, however, this has not been tested. A light scrub with some mild soap will most likely remove any marks from salt residue.

Q: How are these tiles compare to painting the garage floor?

2 Answers
  • A: Painting the floor with a good epoxy type floor paint has mixed reviews - some good and some bad. People seem to have issues at one time or another for whatever product and some people don't. So the scenario here is what is the cheapest method of covering the garage floor that looks good. Painting is very inexpensive and the most labor intensive because of the most important part - floor prep - 90% of success. Tiles are foolproof in that they cover a host of ills -oilstains,cracks and plain ugly cement - and they're done in a day. Paint takes a week to cure,is temperature and humidity sensitive and prone to cracking and peeling. My advice is - if cost is a factor - go with paint and you can always cover a failed job with tile if it doesn't work for you.

Q: Can they be cut to size? I'm thinking to use them on my balcony which has a trapezoidal shape. Can they be cut to size? If so, will an x-acto knife do?

Q: Sealing against water penetration I'm concerned about melting snow and water seeping down between the joints and creating mold on my garage floor. What about applying a sealant over them? I know this would make the installation permanent, but that's okay.

  • A: I would seal the floor of the garage versus sealing over the tiles.
