Singer 4411

I purchased the Singer 4411 Heavy Duty Sewing Machine as a Christmas gift for my adult daughter. She is an intermediate sewer and takes on all kinds of projects, including adjusting heavy denim cuffs and hems. Although she hasn't yet had a lot of time to try this machine, she is excited about its ability to sew through thick and stiff fabrics. I like that this machine is not computerized and hopefully less likely to have any issues or, at least, would be easy to have serviced. My daughter agrees and also feels that there are only so many stitches she would ever use anyway. This one has 11, which is plenty for her purposes.I'm hopeful that she'll get many years of use out of, what seems to be, a solid and well made machine.

4411 Heavy Duty Singer

Very pleased to give away my old, old machine that was giving me problems and use a machine that sews correctly each time I use it. It’s Heavy Duty but still need to be careful with heavy coveralls, broke 2 needles but learned the limits of the 4411 model. Works great for hemming blue jeans. Haven’t used it in fine material yet but am confident with the correct needle, I’ll be fine.

When I was checking out the features the teeth moved down but then it wouldn't move back into position. RETURNED it. Have been using my old singer for over 40 years!

A: Although the web-page write-up mentions an "automatic 4-step buttonhole" feature, the machine's manual details a tedious, multi-stage procedure which Singer has been using in their "entry-level" machines for decades. It works, but automatic it is not! There's a small fixture included that the zig-zag presser foot fits in for alignment of the four segments of the buttonhole. So, yes, it can sew buttonholes; and, yes, there is an attachment supplied; but it is not easy and certainly not automatic.

A: According to Singer's US website, Singer's "Even Feed Foot", their walking foot, Item Number 2500271, is compatible with the 4400/5500 series of heavy-duty machines (their Group "M2") and dozens of other Singer machines. The 4411 (this machine) is listed specifically.

Q: Will this sew leatherette?

A: The Singer model 4411is capable of sewing "garment weight" leather. We suggest that a "leather point" needle(2032) (using another brand can cause tension issues). Use size 16 or 18 needles depending on the weight of the fabric. Also use a Roller/Non-Stick presser foot would be preferable. When sewing on any type of heavy weight fabric we recommend following these instructions: Machine Settings: 1) Longest Straight Stitch (to allow for the thickness of the fabric) 2) Metal All Purpose Foot (on your machine when it came out of the box) 3) Moderate speed when sewing over multiple layers/seams(hand turn hand wheel for thick seams) . If you are planning to sew on heavy fabrics often you may want to look at a more heavy duty type machine. If you plan to sew often on heavy weight fabric we would recommend moving to the Heavy Duty line of sewing machines.

A: This machine will saw on any fabric, you just need the proper needle, you can get that info about needles on line or in a sewing supply store, they have a little pamphlet you can pick up for free, example: Jeans needles, stretch, heavy duty etc...
