Amazing results INDOORS! Wouldn’t trust Outdoors

Read various reviews on various sites regarding product. Many have posted that it doesn’t hold up well to the elements and within a year your left disappointed. Fortunately for me I was looking to use it indoors for our basement stairs and it’s held up fantastic!! Anyone that has used it for an indoor project is extremely satisfied. Anyone that has used it outdoors, even though the product states it can be used out doors, has had a negative experience. PROS: end result looks incredible! Very easy to apply with the stone quarts roller (sold separately) which I highly recommend using! It’s basically I textured roller allowing for the product to take effect. It also has anti-slip properties which was a major bonus for me using on basement stairs. CONS: this product has 2 major CONS that everyone that has ever used it says the same. First being cost. Like anything else you get what you pay for. However for the cost you sure don’t get much and single can does not stretch far. It took me 2 full can just to complete my stairs. So if your project area is larger, expect to spend $$$$$$ TIPS: store can upside down for 2 full hours before use as the product properties float to the bottom of the can while sitting months on the store shelf. Once open very important to use a drill mix to thoroughly mix the product. Use a textured roller, preferably the Recommended Rust-Oleum roller. Keep in mind the first coat after it dries will look terrible! This is by design because it takes 2 thick coats to apply properly. After the second coat dries you will still see some small bald spot sections. At this final stage you just use a regular paint brush to dab any weak spots. Expect long dry times with coat 1&2. The product goes on milky but dries to expected colour. It’s not until the milk clears before you’re able to determine what spots will need more product application. FINALLY: the product worked great for our individual need indoors. I would NOT trust to use the product outdoors. Not speaking from my experience, just saw many online reviews and pictures that used it outdoors. It started out great and ended in tragedy within a year. Indoors it has held up amazing away from the elements. Like any DIY project. It takes time and effort to get your result. Tough pill for some to swallow as we live in an instant gratification world. 4 stars as the cost for return amount is a severely deterring factor.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Top notch takes effort and product but worth it !!

I purchased this product over two years ago for an entry hall to our garage. And yes, it was difficult to put on and it spread unevenly, I just kept on adding more until the coverage was solid and complete. Yes it does require more product to cover an area, but we have found it worth it for smaller high traffic areas. It has stood up to an immense amount of wear and flooding.. but it cleans up nicely.. colour changes slightly when wet, but dries back to original colour not leaving any water stains at all .. no tears or gaps!!! We are renovating the area to include a laundry room and I will be purchasing this item again to fill in the spots that had been covered but a wooden conduit. Totally satisfied customer

Yes, I recommend this product.

Takes many many cans of this to achieve good coverage even with the special roller. Very costly and I will definitely look for other options next time.

Questions

Q: How thick can pour

3 Answers
  • A: Before you pour anything, use a drill and mixer attachment and mix for at least 5 minutes (better results). You can pour a 1/4 can at a time and use the roller sold by rustoleum. It is very thick application so you will only get 18-20 sq feet per can. Took me 6 cans to do 60 sq feet (2 coats) and one can extra for touchups. Follow the dry time guidelines between coats.

Q: A set of steps between to doors. the first two steps are wood painted and the top step is concrete. Would this coating work?

  • A: We painted the concrete wall around our garage on the inside. It takes a lot of the product to cover but it looks great. I’m not sure how it would hold up for a step, ours doesn’t get any foot traffic and it’s inside.

Q: Can this product be used for concrete driveways? If not, what product would you recommend. I have a long driveway

3 Answers
  • A: Hi PatG, Our Stoneffects Quartz Stone Coating is not recommended for driveways as it will not hold up to vehicular traffic. For concrete driveways, we have our Seal-Krete Multi-Surface Clear Water Repellent and our Seal-Krete Clear-Seal Protective Sealer in either a Satin or Gloss Finish.

Q: We would like to put this on our covered front porch--we ripped off old carpet and it is not possible to remove all the glue--can we put this over the glue?

2 Answers
  • A: Hi Lisa, Great question! All the glue will have to be removed with a glue stripper or concrete grinding. We cannot guarantee our Stoneffects Decorative Quartz Stone Coating will adhere to any glue left on the surface.

Q: Does it work good on wood decks

1 Answer
  • A: Hi Big Al, Thank you for your question. Because wood/plywood can contract and expand in response to temperature and humidity, we consider the surface too flexible for our Stoneffects coating. For this reason, when considering exterior projects, Stoneffects is recommended for unsealed concrete surfaces only. We hope this answers your question. Feel free to contact us again if you require further information.

Q: How much surface area does one can cover?

1 Answer
  • A: Hi Julie, Thank you for your question. Our Stoneffects Quartz Stone Coating is a 2-coat system. With 2 coats, you can expect approx. 18 sq. ft. of coverage with one can. We hope this answers your question. Feel free to contact us again if you require further information.
