A: It's a film of silicone. Just like painting silicone with a brush, but it's a spray. It will stick to whatever it lands on, and if you have enough that the cover is complete, it will be completely waterproof. Because there is an organic solvent in there to suspend the silicone microparticles, you may want to check on a small piece or corner of your cover: organic solvents can eat away at some plastic-based fabrics.

Q: Can you spray from inside tent or outside ?

A: Thank you for the inquiry. This product is designed to be applied to the outside of the tent. It creates a barrier that helps repel water. This product should be reapplied as needed as the folding and packing of the tent will effect the performance and breakdown the bonds. Please note to check the manufacturers instructions re: the care and protection of your tent and fabric material before applying the product. Depending on the fabric material and how porous it is, this product may not offer a complete waterproofing. For heavy rains, a plastic tarp is usually the best cover.

Q: Can this be applied in cold weather? I am hoping to use it on horse blankets that need a little extra water proofing? Also, how does it take to dry?

A: The product can be used in cooler weather. If the can itself gets too cold, it can effect the spray and delivery of the material from the can. Under normal temperatures (18 – 22 C) we recommend that you let the product dry for 24 hours. Assuming this is drying outside in the cold weather it may take longer. Just remember this product needs to dry in a well-ventilated area.

A: For outdoor cushions we would recommend the Woods Silicone Spray or Woods Instant Waterproofing Spray (not the Canvas Waterproofing spray). However, before applying either, please check and see if the manufacturer has any instructions regarding what products to use on their material for additional protection.

Q: Can I use this on running shoes? Hi - I realise this is intended for tents, but could I use this on running shoes as well if I want a heavy-duty waterproofing?

A: The Canvas Waterproofing spray is designed for canvas and porous fabric materials and includes a wax to assist in the waterproofing process. You could potentially use it on running shoes, but it could leave a residue on the surface. We would recommend testing it on a small area first to ensure you are satisfied with the results. Otherwise, we would recommend a footwear protector designed specifically for shoes.

Q: Do you spray this on the inside or the outside of the tent? Does it work on nylon? Does the product leave any sticky film/residue?

A: This product is designed to be sprayed on the outside of a tent (not the inside). It can be sprayed on nylon, but first ensure you read the manufacture's information on how to treat the tent and whether they have any specific recommendations regarding what you can and can't spray on their material. The product, while including a wax-based ingredient, does not leave a sticky residue.
